Knockhill Kids Karting Club - Round 3

Another lovely day at Knockhill for Round 3, and after a podium in Round 2 I was hoping to go one better this time.

I started 4th on the grid, and the start itself was a lot more congested than I'm used to — plenty of jockeying for position around me, though I came through it without losing or gaining a place. I crossed the line at the end of lap 1 still in 4th, with the leader already almost a second up the road.

The race

Lap 2 was when things started to open up for me. I made a couple of passes and was up to 2nd by the end of the lap, then spent the next one closing down the gap to the leader, with Julia Cooper following close behind me the whole way.

Once I'd caught up, Julia and I had a proper fight on our hands. She got by first and took the lead, with me holding 2nd. I got back ahead on lap 5, only for Julia to find her way back past by the end of lap 6. I wasn't done though, and retook the lead on lap 7 — and this time I managed to keep hold of it for the rest of the race, even though Julia never really let the gap open up behind me.

Taking the positives

It was a really solid drive, and I was pleased to come away with the win after such a close battle. My time was only a tenth off my personal best, which shows the pace was genuinely there all day, not just in the laps I happened to be leading.
